Be Your Own Valentine

I love chocolate.

But I’m not a fan of Valentine’s Day.

It could be that I’ve never had a Valentine. Or it could be that I’ve always thought it was strange to force people to be in love on a specific day, when they should be in love all the time.

Many years ago I decided that I wasn’t going to wait for someone to buy me flowers. The same goes for fancy chocolates. Or in this case fancy truffles in pink boxes. I love myself, so isn’t that enough?

In my search for good vegan chocolate I’ve found… well, the options aren’t as great as I’d like them to be. They tend to range from brands that just have dark chocolate, which generally is plantbased, to the “healthy chocolate” tasting stuff. Which is great and has its place. But sometimes you want something decadent that doesn’t feel a shred bit healthy.

Indulgent. Luxurious. Fancy.

So when I found Sjaak’s Chocolate at VeganSupply.ca I was dubious. Was it just going to be another expensive healthy disappointment? Imagine my surprise when it was beyond good. It brought me right back to sitting eating truffles with my grandmother (she’d give me the Champagne ones and take the Grand Marnier for herself).

The company out of Petaulma, California (aka home of My Favorite Murder’s Karen Kilgariff) was founded in 2004 by a Dutch chocolatier. All of their chocolate is artisanally produced. They roast chocolate themselves, grind their own nut butters, and hand wrap the bars. It is delicate, and delightful, and worth every penny.

If you want to dip your toe in pick up one of their seasonal nut butter hearts (or eggs, or Christmas trees). I promise you won’t regret it!
